I am interested in investigating the relation of electronic image-making and communication media to domestic space (its history and development in Europe) and contemporary art, specifically painting and media installation.

My research investigates the following:

  • Domestic spaces and the way they are populated with media and installations that can be said to be portals or windows onto exterior worlds. This is approached as a historical investigation as well as an aesthetic, social and political investigation, drawing on methodologies developed by media archeology and feminist art practices.
  • The development of images in European domestic and architectural spaces, from the wall paintings of Herculaneum to Apple TV.
  • The relation of Roman and Pompeian wall painting and murals to contemporary painting and installation and media art (via 18th Century Palladian villas decorated by Robert Adams)
